If the word 'occult' means hidden then many things could be called occult. We could say, for example,'Where have you occult (hidden) the birthday presents?' or 'He has occult (hidden) feelings for her'. If a person is in hiding they could be said to be in occultation.
So the little planet like, spherical, snails we saw yesterday under a railing
were definitely in occultation, hiding away.
